01What we do

TroubledCouples is a directory, not a practice. We don't employ therapists and we don't deliver counselling. What we do is find practitioners across the UK, check that they are who they say they are, and put their fees and availability somewhere you can see them before you make contact.

02Why any of this is necessary

“Counsellor” and “therapist” are not protected titles in the UK. Anyone may use them, with no training and no register to answer to. That single fact is the reason this platform exists — not to add another list of names to the internet, but to make the names on it checkable.

03Your privacy

You can browse the whole directory without an account. We don't email you unless you ask, and your details never reach a therapist you haven't chosen. If you're worried about someone seeing your browsing history, use your browser's private mode. And if you're not safe at home, the National Domestic Abuse Helpline is 0808 2000 247.

We're based in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and list practitioners across the UK — in person, by phone, online, and at home where it is offered.

How we check

What happens before a profile appears

Four steps, every practitioner, no exceptions. It is the only thing this platform really sells.

    They tell us who they are registered with

    Body and membership number, given at signup. Without both there is nothing to check and the application stops here.

    We check it at the source

    Against the register itself: BACP, UKCP, NCPS, or HCPC for physiotherapists. Not against a certificate they send us.

    We confirm the insurance

    Current professional indemnity cover, held privately and never shown publicly.

  4. 4

    We do it again every year

    A registration that lapses takes the profile down with it until it is renewed.

How we make money

Subscriptions, not a cut of your session

How a directory earns decides whose side it is on. Ours is worth stating plainly.

  • Practitioners pay a flat monthly fee

    The same amount whether they see one client through us or thirty.

  • We take no commission

    Nothing you pay a practitioner is marked up, and there is no booking fee on top of their price.

  • Paying more does not buy a better position

    Search results are ordered by what you filtered for. No practitioner can buy their way up them.

  • Using the site is free, and stays free

    There is no seeker subscription, and no plan to introduce one.
