Most single parents are not looking for parenting advice. They are looking for one hour a week in which they are not responsible for anybody else.
Single parenting is relentless in a way that is hard to describe to people who have someone to hand over to. There is no off-duty, no second opinion at eleven at night, and very little room to be unwell.
What people bring
Exhaustion that sleep does not fix. Guilt about the childhood they think they are providing. Anger at an ex who sees the children for the enjoyable parts. Loneliness. Dating again, and when or whether to introduce anyone. Grief, where the other parent has died.
Co-parenting
Where there is another parent in the picture, a good deal of the work is about the handovers and the messages: how to keep a child out of the middle when the adults are still angry with each other.
Practicalities
Childcare is usually the obstacle, so filter for online and evening appointments. Some practitioners offer home visits. See home sessions.
