There is no such thing as a common-law marriage in England and Wales. Couples who have lived together for twenty years can have fewer rights than a couple married for one.
Unmarried couples get asked the same questions as everybody else: where are we going, do we want children, whose career moves, but without the milestones that force the conversation. It is easy to be together for years and never have decided anything on purpose.
What people bring
Whether to move in, or whether moving in changed something. One person wanting marriage and the other not. Buying a property together and realising you have never discussed what happens if it ends. Blended families, and where a partner stands with a child who is not theirs.
The practical layer
A counsellor is not a solicitor and will not advise you on cohabitation agreements or property law. What they can do is make the conversation possible, so that when you do take advice you are taking it together rather than separately.
Starting
Sessions are typically fifty minutes and weekly. You can come alone if your partner is not ready.
